21 Series – Embracing Advocacy 101 Webinar

In this webinar, you will learn about government advocacy best practices, easy ways to stay up to date about legislation that may affect you or your loved ones, and how to build positive relationships with the elected officials that represent you. This is a great educational webinar for parents, self-advocates, siblings, and anyone who cares about advocating for people with Down syndrome.
Cheerleading
(ages 7 - 18) or up to age 22 if still in school
Practices will be held in Oct/Nov...exact time and date TBD
Coached by Debbie Schroeder (former Ben-Gal), Joanie Elfers (DSAGC Coordinator) and Dianna Rafferty Coley (former cheerleader)
Join our squad and learn the basics of cheerleading, as well as a dance routine, which will be performed all over the Greater Cincinnati area! After practice sessions conclude, we perform at several high school basketball half-time shows with the high school cheerleaders. These performances are optional and Coach Schroeder will announce them at a later date. Each cheerleader will receive their own set of pom-poms that they get to keep. They will also be provided with a uniform, which will be turned back at the end of the season.
Healthy Relationships
(ages 18 - 30)

This 5-week series will give adults with Down syndrome an opportunity to gain information about their bodies, boundaries, healthy relationships, sexuality and more.
Full attendance is necessary to ensure quality learning since this series is designed to progress upon what is learned in the previous class. We can work with participants that have to miss a class due to an unforeseen circumstance (sickness, hospital stay, change in work schedule, etc.) However, if you are unable to commit to this multiple-week series, please leave the spot available for others. We have a wait list for the majority of our programs.
Gymnastics
(ages 6 - 12)
Wednesdays • October 3 - November 28 *no class 10/31 & 11/21

This beginner’s gymnastics series will focus on movement, education, skills on the vault, balancing skills on the beam, and other beginning gymnastic skills. It will be led by two gymnastics coaches at the Powell Crosley YMCA. There will also be up to 4 volunteers with experience in gymnastics who will be present to assist the coaches and children.

Keys for Little Ones

Join us as we wiggle, shake, drum, and sing in this fun and exciting music class! Through singing, dancing, and playing instruments, we will discover the power of music to help children meet developmental milestones in communication, social skills, motor skills, and bonding. Moms, dads, and caregivers- come join in the fun to help your child learn, play and grow and take away knowledge to continue the music-making at home!

Early Matters Pogo Play!

Who wants to play? Meet some fellow parents? Come enjoy a night at Pogo Play! Let your children play together while the adults chat. There is a large room for toddlers to have fun. We will also have a party room to enjoy some snacks, pizza, and drinks.
Admission (at the door):
We will cover the cost of each child with Down syndrome!
Siblings: $6.50/kid (3yrs+) | $3/toddlers (crawling-2yrs)
*20% of this admission will go back to the DSAGC

21 Series – Accommodations and Modifications in the Classroom Setting

Presented by Caitlin Smith, Intervention Specialist, Kings School District
The presentation will focus on three topics:
What accommodations and modifications terms mean and the difference between them
The kinds of work for different types of learners
How you can advocate for things that your child will need in the school setting
**Bring along your child’s IEP for an interactive discussion to share what accommodations/modifications have worked.
Caitlin is going into her eighth year of teaching this year. Her and her husband have decided to start their family by adopting a child with Down syndrome, and have been in the process for two years. Caitlin serves as an Intervention Specialist by trade, but has also served in an advocate role for families of children with disabilities. She is involved in disability ministry within her church and is always finding ways to become more involved with the disability community.
Halloween Party

Wear your favorite Halloween costume and join us for a SPOOKTACULAR party filled with MONSTROUS music and FRIGHTENING fun! Adults will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with their friends while enjoying pizza, crafts, music and more.

Baking Skills
(ages 18 & up)

Participants will gain hands-on experience with baking in the kitchen! Throughout this three-week series, adults will learn how to prep and bake new recipes, as well as kitchen safety.

The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati celebrates the holiday season every December by bringing together our families for a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, arts and crafts, holiday decorating, gifts and more. It’s also a time to honor individuals who have championed our mission and who have served as a constant source of celebration of individuals with Down syndrome. This is a free event, but families that wish to attend must register.

Join us for a FREE photography event! This is an opportunity for you and your family to get their pictures taken by professional local photographers. You receive all the photos digitally at no cost to you. Space is limited and priority will be given to those who did not participate in 2017.
