This music therapy class for little ones is taught by board certified music therapist, Kate Legge. Your child's musical experience will be designed in a purposeful and developmentally appropriate manner to focus on parent-child bonding, hand-eye coordination, beginning sign language/communication and exploration of tactile, auditory and visual stimuli. The work of children is play - and music is playful! Young children learn through repetition; thus each week builds upon songs and activities presented in the prior week's class. Please bring your own blankets (yoga mats will be provided). If you have any questions, please contact Jena Wells at jenaw@dsagc.com.

'21 Series' Workshops
Guardianship
September 21 | 6:30 - 8 PM
DSAGC Hatton Foundation Community Room
Presented by James A. Singler, Attorney at Law
Understanding guardianship and the other options that are available is important for a family, especially as a child prepares for adulthood. By attending this workshop, you will learn about guardianship and other ways to support your adult child (or soon-to-be adult) with financial, medical and legal decision-making. Pros and cons of the various options will be discussed and implications will be outlined. If you have questions, please contact Christy Gregg at christyg@dsagc.com.
Support for the Caregiver
October 21 | 9:15 - 10:45 AM
DSAGC Hatton Foundation Community Room
Presented by Dr. Laurie Little
This workshop will focus on one of the most important parts of being a caregiver – taking care of your own well-being. Dr. Little will review the nature of stress as it relates to being a caregiver of a child or adult with Down syndrome. She will discuss effective interventions for managing that stress and participants will leave having practiced these interventions so as to continue them at home. The seminar will combine a presentation of research as well as provide an opportunity for group discussion and emotional support. Managing stress is key to being the best caregiver you can be – not only to your loved one with Down syndrome, but to yourself as well. We hope that you will take this brief time to learn how to decompress and re-energize yourself when needed.
Dr. Laurie Little is a clinical psychologist and parent of a child with Autism. Dr. Little teaches her clients mindfulness based strategies to help cope with a wide range of emotional issues including depression, anxiety, parenting stress, food addiction and relationship difficulties. Dr. Little has used meditation and mindfulness practices in her own life for the last 20 years and is passionate about teaching others how to find peace and acceptance in the things we cannot change.
Healthy Aging
November 21 | 6:30 - 8 PM
DSAGC Hatton Foundation Community Room
Presented by Clarissa Rentz and Christy Gregg
There are many aspects and milestones of life that are celebrated as one grows older; however, aging can also bring with it challenges and uncertainty. These challenges may arise when adults with Down syndrome, their families and their caregivers do not feel prepared. Accurate information and education about what to anticipate in an aging adult with Down syndrome is essential.
The evening will be hosted by Clarissa Rentz and Christy Gregg. Clarissa Rentz is a Registered Nurse with a Masters in Nursing. She is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist. In 1997, while at the Alzheimer’s Association, Mrs. Rentz began to see individuals with Down syndrome who had a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer’s disease. Christy Gregg is the Adult Matters Coordinator for the DSAGC. Christy has the knowledge and expertise of living with a person with Down syndrome. She is a sibling to a younger brother with Down syndrome, and she understands the values of person/family living and supports across the lifespan.
