Description: This class is a therapist-facilitated, progressive-building gross motor program focused on core strength (abdominal and back). Each class builds on the previous one, so you don't want to miss out! This is a group physical therapy session. Each week, a different topic/technique will be discussed as a group, and then you will have time to practice with therapists nearby! Parents may ask the therapist about specific questions or concerns regarding their child. There will be one physical therapist and one PT intern at each session to speak with every family. Parents will also receive a handout at the end of each session to extend learning time at home. Due to safety concerns, we kindly ask that you keep siblings home during this class.

Description: Each class is taught by a Rhythm Works Integrated Dance Certified Instructor and is designed to support existing therapy goals. We will gather your child’s therapy goals after registration is complete. Benefits of this class include Gross/Fine Motor Skills, Social Skills, Body Control and Awareness, Coordination, Strength and Flexibility, Focus, Memory and Recall Skill, and MORE! Remarkable Movement class is ongoing and if you should choose to continue with this class after the first 8 weeks, there is a Recital the 1st weekend in June.

Description: Chef Miles and volunteers will help participants learn to cook a new recipe each week! Teens will learn basic kitchen and cooking skills while interacting with same age peers.

Description: Participants will gain hands-on experience in the kitchen! Chef Mike and his assistant will teach adults how to use tools and appliances to prepare meals. Chef Mike and volunteers will oversee participants as they create their very own dishes! Throughout the 5-week session, adults will also learn about kitchen safety and tips to eat healthy! The final week the skills will be applied and the group will host a family style meal.

Description: Advocates in Action is a program for adults with Down syndrome ages 18 & up. Throughout the year, the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati will offer volunteer opportunities for our adults with Down syndrome. The goal is to spread awareness and give back to the community. Come join DSAGC’s Advocates in Action while we volunteer at Matthew 25: Ministries.

Description: African-Americans with Down syndrome are reported to experience significantly shorter lifespans than their Caucasian peers. This presentation provides the audience with updated life expectancies based on Tennessee administrative databases, and an understanding of how racial disparities in health and hospitalizations contribute to these disparate life expectancies. The doctors will discuss ways to promote better health outcomes.
Anna Esbensen, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati Medical School in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She studies the lifespan development of individuals with Down syndrome and provides clinical services to families of children with Down syndrome through the Jane and Richard Thomas Center for Down Syndrome.
Lauren Wang, MD, is a family medicine physician with UC Health who provides primary care to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a special interest in Down Syndrome. She also works in the Transition Care Clinic at UC Health which assists patients with complex medical needs as they transition from pediatric to adult providers. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and also served on the Board of Directors for the DSAGC from 2015-2018.

Description: "Independence" means different things for everyone. For some, it means living on their own...for others, it means reaching an individual goal (developing social connections, learning new skills, etc.). O.W.N.: Optimizing What’s Next is a one-day event based off of our popular Independent Living Retreat which takes place in the summer over an entire weekend. O.W.N. focuses on community service, learning new skills, making friendships and gaining or increasing your OWN level of independence.

Registration Information: Registration fills on a first come, first serve basis. Attendees must reside within our 12 counties. 7 spots will be reserved for NEW attendees (anyone who has never attended or has not attended O.W.N. in the last three years.)
Please note: Attendees must be able to self-administer their medications during the duration of the event. Staff and volunteers will ONLY be able to provide verbal prompts. Experienced, background checked and trained staff/volunteers will provide supervision and facilitate a positive learning environment.

This half-day conference, hosted by the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati, focuses on ways to motivate, engage, connect with, and educate students with disabilities, specifically Down syndrome.
Our keynote speaker Chris Ulmer, motivational speaker, special ed professional, and creator of Special Books By Special Kids, will inspire us all with his approach to educating and connecting with extraordinary students. Breakout sessions will focus on best practices and new ideas for students of all abilities; attendees will walk away with easy-to-implement teaching tactics and real ways to make a difference in the classroom.

Our Annual Winter Dance has become one of our signature celebratory events of the year! Attendees range from couples on a date night to groups of friends, to teens and adults with Down syndrome out with their social club. We encourage you to join us for an evening of good food and drinks, dancing, and of course, fun!
Ticket to the dance includes admission, light appetizers, buffet dinner, soft drinks, dessert and 2 drink tickets for beer or wine. Don't forget, unlimited live music and dancing with our favorite band Candygram! We respectfully request ages 15 and up to attend the dance.

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21 (3/21) to signify the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome present in people with Down syndrome. One way you can celebrate is to sign-up to walk or run in the World Down Syndrome Day 5K!
This 5K is EXTRA special! In honor of World Down Syndrome Day (3/21) we incorporate "3-2-1" into many race elements. We celebrate all things Down syndrome...from the race distance of 3.21 miles to the race fee of $32.10. Come out with your friends, family, neighbors or coworkers and walk or run with us.
